Banda Sea offers is a unique destination for scuba diving enthusiasts. A Banda Sea liveaboard adventure promises a thrilling exploration of untouched coral reefs, vibrant marine life, and above all, the migration of the Hammerhead migration.
The diving season in Banda Sea is not very long but it is special. Imagine yourself being underwater at approximately 25 meters deep (82 feet) and diving right next to a huge wall of 100 Hammerhead Sharks. Another thing for Banda Sea liveaboard is the whale watching. Of course, a difficult task but once it happens, it is a memorable experience.
The coral reefs in Banda Sea are simply stunning, largely untouched by large tourism because of the remote location. Thresher Sharks, and different types of rays are often seen here but sharks and whales are by far the highlight.
Highlights include: Hammerhead sharks, Whales, Thresher sharks, dolphins, manta ray, turtles, stunning pristine coral reefs & not forgetting macro critters in Ambon!

Here's your Rough Itinerary:
Day 1 – Ambon:
Arrive in Ambon (Garuda, Nam, Sriwijaya, Wings airlines are domestic flights). Embarking from Tulehu port in Ambon. Check in on Amaya Explorer around 9-10am. Check dive after lunch in Saparua Island/ Molana. Takes 2 hours from Ambon. This small, hilly, uninhabited island off Saparua’s southwestern tip is known for its excellent dive spots and has the finest white sand beach anywhere in the Lease Islands.
Day 2 – Suanggi Island:
Suanggi Island is located 20km northwest of Banda Neira. The boat will only go when conditions are right. Currents can be strong, therefore a lot of fish and if you are lucky, large predators including occasional hammerheads and thresher sharks are awaiting divers.
Day 3 – Banda Neira:
It’s a remote location and surrounding deep sea, the waters around Banda are extremely clear. Visibility of 30m is common and somedays, you can even experience up to 50m plus. The conditions and health of the coral reefs are breathtaking. Banda is home to the largest Napoleon Wrasse population and schooling hammerheads in Indonesia known to date and you can see them on almost every dive. The possible dive sites are Run Island, Nailaka Island, Karang Hatta and Banda Jetty. You can also visit the historic site of Banda Neira island, museum and the Belgica Fort.
Day 4 – Serua Island:
Another forgotten island in the middle of the Banda Sea. The reefs of this remote place are literally overloaded with schooling fish and another good place to spot large tunas, jackfish, rays, and hammerheads as this island is also called hammerhead sharks’ home. We will spend a full day here for a higher chance to see the schooling hammerheads.
Day 5 – Manuk Island / Gunung Api:
Manuk is located in south Banda. The island is unique due to its incredibly large population of sea snakes. Most common seen are the banded sea krait and the rarer Chinese sea snake in brown and green colours.
Day 6 – Batu Kapal, Hatta Island:
4 dives around Hatta Island and Batu Kapal, with interesting dive sites and the chance to see big pelagic fish. Schooling trevally, tuna, barracuda, white and black tip sharks are around the island. There is a series of pinnacles which are covered with orange gorgonians, barrel sponges used by giant and honeycomb moray eels and loads of red-tooth triggerfish around.
Day 7 – Nusa Laut:
2 morning dives in beautiful Amed reef (Nusa Laut Island) that offer stunning hard coral seascapes with many varieties and also the finest white sand beach in the Lease Islands. We then navigate towards Ambon.
Day 8 – Ambon Port:
9am – Check out after breakfast, farewells and transfer to Ambon Patimura Airport.
Marine Life:
Snapper, bumphead, blunt head parrotfish, turtles, sharks, moray eels, dog-toothed tuna, jacks, fusiliers, mobula rays, whales, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, thresher sharks, silver tip sharks and much more.
Note that the last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
